Diagnostics
Strange noises, loss of power, or warning lights can be signs of drive unit failure. To define the problem, it is necessary to conduct qualified diagnostics using specific diagnostic software and to perform physical inspections for visible signs of damage or wear.

Tesla Drive Unit Diagnostics FAQ

A noise alone does not identify the source. Its relationship to speed, acceleration and turning helps distinguish a drive-unit concern from tires, wheel bearings or other components.
Describe when the symptom occurs, send any alerts and mention changes in acceleration or vibration. Include the VIN and recent work on your Tesla; record sounds only when it is safe to do so.
Inspection and fault data help identify the affected assembly and whether a repair is appropriate. A replacement should follow those findings rather than the vehicle's mileage alone.
Tesla vehicles do not all use the same components or procedures. Send the model, VIN and relevant repair history so drive unit diagnostics can be assessed for the vehicle you own.
